Safety.

Car care products are consumer chemicals and abrasives. Used properly they are unremarkable. Used carelessly they can damage paint, glass or trim, and a few combinations are genuinely dangerous. This page is the complete version of what appears in summary on every product page.

Nitrile gloves, safety goggles and a spray bottle laid out on a dark surface

Chemical handling

  • Work in a well-ventilated area, outdoors where possible.
  • Wear gloves and eye protection when handling cleaning chemicals.
  • Keep all products away from children and pets.
  • Dilute strictly according to the label. More concentrate does not mean more cleaning.
  • Never mix products. Acidic and chlorine-based cleaners must never be combined.
  • Adults only. Chemicals must be handled by an adult.
  • Store upright, sealed, out of direct sunlight, and away from heat.

The one that actually matters

Never combine an acidic product with a chlorine-based one. The reaction releases chlorine gas, and it happens in seconds. This is the single most dangerous thing you can do with ordinary cleaning products, and it usually happens by accident — two products poured into the same bucket, or a residue left in an unrinsed container. One product per bucket, rinse between uses, and label everything.

Paint and surface risk

Some of what we sell is abrasive or chemically active by design. That is what makes it work, and it is also what makes it capable of damage. We are not going to tell you these products cannot hurt your paint, because that would not be true.

  • Clay bars, iron removers and hand polish can scratch or dull paint if used incorrectly.
  • Always test on a small, inconspicuous area first before working a full panel.
  • Keep clay and polish surfaces fully lubricated — never work them dry.
  • Hand polish compound is for hand application only. Do not fit it to any machine.
  • Protection durability figures are indicative ranges. They vary with washing, climate and storage.

Hand polish must never go on a machine

Our hand polish compound is formulated for the pressure and speed a hand can generate. A rotary or dual-action polisher generates heat it was never designed for. Burning through clear coat on a body line or panel edge takes a few seconds, it cannot be reversed with anything sold on this site, and it means a respray. We do not sell machine polishers, and we ask you not to use ours with one.

Surface restrictions that matter most

Every product page carries a full “do not use on” list. These are the ones where getting it wrong is expensive or unsafe.

Windscreen Water Spot Remover

  • Do not use on ceramic-coated or rain-repellent-treated glass — it will strip the coating
  • Do not use on tinted or filmed glass, including interior film surfaces
  • Do not use on paint, plastic trim or headlight lenses
  • Do not use on any interior glass surface

Iron Fallout Remover 32oz

  • Do not use on bare, polished or anodised metal
  • Do not use on ceramic-coated or tinted glass
  • Do not use on matte finishes
  • Never allow to dry on any surface

Tyre Shine Gel 16oz

  • Never apply to the tyre tread or any contact surface — it reduces grip
  • Do not apply to motorcycle tyres
  • Do not apply to painted wheel faces

Hand Polish Compound (Non-Machine)

  • Not for use with any machine polisher, rotary or dual-action
  • Do not use on matte or satin finishes
  • Do not use on edges, body lines or thin paint
  • Not a substitute for professional paint correction

Clay Bar Kit + Lubricant

  • Do not use on matte or satin finishes
  • Do not use on soft or textured plastic trim
  • Do not use on a dry surface under any circumstances

Trim & Plastic Restorer

  • Do not apply to painted surfaces
  • Do not apply to glass or windscreen wipers
  • Do not apply to any surface you sit on or grip

Matte and satin finishes, vinyl wraps and existing ceramic coatings need different products from gloss clear coat. If your car is any of those, send us the details before ordering.

Soapy wash water running toward a storm drain beside a grass verge

Wastewater and local rules

Wash water runoff is regulated in many US states and municipalities, and discharge into a storm drain may be prohibited where you live. Wash on grass or gravel, or use a containment mat, and check your local rules before you start.

  • Storm drains usually discharge to a waterway without treatment. What goes down them goes into the water.
  • Washing on grass or gravel lets the ground filter the runoff instead.
  • A containment mat is the answer if you only have hard standing — it collects the water for controlled disposal.
  • Many shared and commercial lots prohibit vehicle washing outright. Check before you start.
  • Rules vary by state, county and city. Ours is not the last word on it — your local authority is.

California Proposition 65

WARNING

Proposition 65 (California): certain cleaning products can expose you to chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer or reproductive harm. Specific warnings, where applicable, are printed on the product label. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.

Products to which this applies carry the warning on their product page and on the physical label. Where a warning is not shown, the product is not one we have identified as requiring it. If you are a California resident and have a question about a specific product, email support@cordovatransport.shop.

Storage and disposal

If something goes wrong

In the eyes
Rinse with clean water for at least 15 minutes, holding the eyelid open. Remove contact lenses if present and easy to do. Seek medical advice, and take the product container with you.
On the skin
Remove contaminated clothing and wash the area with soap and water. Seek medical advice if irritation persists.
